Summary:
The least informed about children’s rights are children in small settlements and the institutions. The main goal of the project is to develop innovative solutions for teaching children about their right to express and defend their opinions on issues that affect them. Association “Chance and Protection” also aims to develop its capacity to educate children about their right to participate, and to study the effect of applying innovative approaches and to disseminate them.

“Activities are planned in three types of settlements in the Haskovo region – a regional city, smaller towns and villages. We consider the city of Lyubimets and 2 surrounding villages to be disadvantaged, not so much from the point of view of their geographical location and access possibilities, but in terms of a lack of of activities on the topic and relevant specialists to present it. On the project, we work with children of Roma origin living in Haskovo, Svilengrad and Lyubimets – at least 20% of the direct beneficiaries. In these communities, patriarchal traditions have not yet been overcome, the right of the powerful to make a decision and other practices that exclude the opportunity for children to express an opinion and have it taken into account.” – say “Chance and Protection” Association.

See here: Children’s Training Manual “Children for the Rights of the Child” (in Bulgarian) – developed within the project. The manual is aimed at specialists (teaching staff, pedagogical advisors, social workers, psychologists) working with children in primary and high school education. It includes examples of how to apply interactive methods (exercises and games).

On the website of the Association “Chance and Protection” you will also find an analysis of the understanding of children and experts on the rights of the child. 40 students aged 12-16 from different schools and with different ethnic background, as well as experts, have participated in the project’s focused group discussions.
