Summary:
The project is aimed at improving the opportunities of vulnerable children from the Roma community to obtain fair and rights-based access to justice by developing and implementing a specialized social service “Access to Justice”, which is based on an integrated approach.
The main objectives of the project are: Increasing the sensitivity and knowledge of the Roma community about the rights of children, victims or witnesses of crime or children in conflict with the law in their access to justice, developing their skills to act as advocates for their children and encouraging their active participation and cooperation with local institutions and stakeholders; Improving the situation and opportunities of vulnerable children from the Roma community to obtain fair and rights-based access to justice by developing and implementing a specialized social service “Access to Justice” for child victims or witnesses of crime or children in conflict with the law and their families. Contributing to the reduction of social differences between vulnerable children from the Roma community by increasing their access to quality social support services; Increasing the competences (knowledge, skills, and overcoming discriminatory attitudes) of professionals and representatives of the Bulgarian authorities: employees of the protection system, social services, police, prosecutor’s office, courts, etc. to improve the access of children of Roma origin to friendly justice.
Expected results: Developed materials to increase the capacity of parents and the local community for improved access to friendly justice, conduct a community awareness and sensitization campaign and develop and consult with the community on a specialized service program; Held informational meetings and training workshops; Consulted and adopted Program for a specialized service, which is provided in an integrated “Access to Justice” with professional tools adapted to it; Provided specialized environment with a minimum area of 70 sq.m. to provide the service; Developed a training package of training materials; Issued and presented Handbook “Good practices of friendly justice towards children, participants in legal procedures as victims of crimes and as alleged perpetrators of crimes”; Publicity measures implemented.
